π£ Communication 101 with Jamie Storey
Today, Jefferson County CEO welcomed Jamie Storey, Executive Director of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, Jefferson County CEO Board Member, and owner of Pyramid Powder Coating, for a conversation about a skill that matters in every career and every business: communication.
Jamie challenged our young entrepreneurs to think about the small details that can make a big impression:
π€ Shake hands and make eye contact
π± Use the appropriate communication channel and be mindful of the time of day
π During business visits, practice active listening, avoid side conversations, and show respect to the people giving their time
βοΈ Never underestimate the power of a handwritten thank you note
Jamie shared that thank you notes are more than just common courtesy. They demonstrate professionalism, help you stand out, ensure you arenβt easily forgotten, and encourage a gratitude-oriented mindset. Students even learned the details of writing a meaningful thank-you note and properly addressing an envelope.
One message especially stood out:
βBefore you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.β
These are the kinds of lessons that extend far beyond the CEO classroom. We are grateful to Jamie for investing her time in our students and helping prepare them to communicate, connect, and represent themselves professionally in our community.
