🍦Yellin’ Helens - Dix, IL
Jefferson County CEO had the opportunity to collaborate with the Little Egypt CEO program for a visit to Yellin’ Helens, where we spoke with owners Mrs. Jena Allen and Mrs. Joy Renaud about entrepreneurship, relationships, and building a business from the ground up.
Yellin’ Helens opened during COVID, and its memorable name comes from Jena’s grandma, Helen. With the belief that “everybody loves ice cream,” they took a chance on their idea and invested their own money, time, and hard work into creating the business and building it into what it is today.
One of our biggest takeaways was the importance of knowing your target customers. It is important to know where you are located and who you are serving. Jena and Joy reminded us that money isn’t the only measure of a successful business. Customers recognize authenticity, and strong relationships can be one of a business’s greatest assets. Taking the time to make conversation, get to know customers, and create a welcoming environment keeps people coming back.
Their own motivation to keep going is simple: they love being around people. That passion shines bright through every cup! Thank you to Mrs. Jena Allen and Mrs. Joy Renaud for sharing your story and valuable advice with us, and thank you to Little Egypt CEO for joining us for a great morning of learning and collaboration!
